چکیده

This study describes a simple, easy and inexpensive method for extracting tanshinone IIA and cryptotanshinone from Salvia miltiorrhiza by sonication or decoction. A comparison of sonication and decoction showed a similar yield for cryptotanshinone, while the tanshinone IIA yield was slightly higher using sonication. An analytical method for detecting tanshinone IIA and cryptotanshinone in extracts was developed and validated. Optimal conditions for separation and detection were achieved using a Grom Sil 120 ODS-5 ST column (250 X 4 mm, 5 μm) with an isocratic mixture of methanol:water (80:20) containing 0.5% acetic acid, at flow rate 0.5 ml/min, detected at 254 nm. The analysis run time was 25 min. The recovery of the method was >87% for cryptotanshinone and >92% for tanshinone IIA and both compounds showed good linearity (r2

Metabolism of tanshinone IIA, cryptotanshinone and tanshinone I from Radix Salvia miltiorrhiza in zebrafish.

The study aimed to investigate the potential of zebrafish in imitating mammal phase I metabolism of natural compounds. Three diterpenoid quinones from Radix Salvia miltiorrhiza, namely tanshinone IIA (TIIA), cryptotanshinone (Cry) and tanshinone I (TI) were selected as model compounds, and their metabolites mediated by zebrafish were characterized using a high-performance liquid chromatography ...

A simple and reliable method for distinguishing danshen in salvia: simultaneous quantification of six active compositions by HPLC.

A simple and reliable method for distinguishing Danshen is important to evaluate the quality and clinical efficiency of these species. An HPLC method was developed for the determination of protocatechuic aldehyde, salvianolic acid A, salvianolic acid B, cryptotanshinone, tanshinone I and tanshinone IIA in 23 samples of Salvia. The analytes were separated on an Agilent XDB C18 reversed-phase col...

Application of a rapid and efficient quantitative analysis method for traditional Chinese medicines: the case study of quality assessment of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge.

A reference extractive, containing multiple active known compounds, has been considered to be an alternative to individual reference standards. However, in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (ChP) the great majority of reference extractives have been primarily used for qualitative identification by thin-layer chromatography (TLC) and few studies on the applicability of reference extractives for quantita...

Simultaneous Determination of Four Tanshinones by UPLC-TQ/MS and Their Pharmacokinetic Application after Administration of Single Ethanol Extract of Danshen Combined with Water Extract in Normal and Adenine-Induced Chronic Renal Failure Rats.

Salvia miltiorrhiza, one of the major traditional Chinese medicines, is commonly used and the main active ingredients-tanshinones-possess the ability to improve renal function. In this paper, the UPLC-TQ/MS method of simultaneously determining four tanshinones-tanshinone IIA, dihydrotanshinone I, tanshinone I, and cryptotanshinone-was established and applied to assess the pharmacokinetics in no...

In vitro cytotoxicity of tanshinones isolated from Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge against P388 lymphocytic leukemia cells.

The cytotoxic effect of four tanshinones isolated from the dried root of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge (Lamiaceae) were studied in vitro using P388 lymphocytic leukemia cells. Tanshinone I and tanshinone IIA were shown to be quite strongly cytotoxic against the cells (86.76% and 56.05% cell inhibition at 25 microg/ml). Dihydrotanshinone I and cryptotanshinone, which lack of saturation at C-15, show...
